REBEL DYKES + Zine Workshop & More!

Nicolson Square & Filmhouse Cinema, Edinburgh /

One of the hits of 2021 BFI Flare Festival, Rebel Dykes follows a tight-knit group of friends who met at Greenham Common peace camp and became artists, performers, musicians and activists in London. A hot, heady, punky, sexy mash-up of animation, previously unseen rare archive footage and new interviews tells the story of a radical scene: squatters, BDSM nightclubs, anti-Thatcher rallies, protests demanding action around AIDS and the fierce ties of chosen families. Co-directors Harri Shanahan and Siân A. William have created one of the most innovative and inspiring debut documentaries of 2021.

All event elements will be BSL interpreted, and the film screening is Captioned.

Join us for a Reclaim The Frame screening in Edinburgh, co-presented in collaboration with Sanctuary Queer Arts. The film will be followed by a panel discussion hosted by Rebel Dykes’ Executive Producer, Melanie Iredale, with speakers Siobhan Fahey (original Rebel Dyke and Producer of the film) and Michelle Mangan (Executive Producer). Audiences will also be treated to a 10 minute performance after the panel from singer songwriter, Lake Montgomery.

From 6.00pm there will be a Rebel Dykes themed zine making workshop that is free to attend for all ticket holders, hosted by Edinburgh Zine Library at Leith Hall, Nicolson Square with BSL interpretation. Please reserve your place ahead of time via Eventbrite.

6.00pm – Zine Workshop (Nicolson Square)

8.15pm – Film starts followed by discussion & performance (Edinburgh Filmhouse)
