Synopsis

Tove is the captivating story about the creative energy of iconic Moomins creator Tove Jansson, and her turbulent search for identity, desire and freedom.

Helsinki, 1945. The end of the war brings a new sense of artistic and social freedom for painter Tove Jansson (Alma Pöysti). While focusing her artistic dreams on her painting, the enchanting tales of the ‘Moomin’ creatures she told scared children in bomb shelters, rapidly takes on a life of their own, bringing international fame and financial freedom. Her desire for liberty is put to the test, when she meets theatre director Vivica Bandler (Krista Kosonen) who ignites an electric and all-consuming love in her. But while she begins to find her artistic identity she learns the true love she yearns has to be reciprocated and only by forging her own path can she learn to be free.

From director Zaida Bergroth and featuring an enthralling central performance from Alma Pöysti, Tove is the remarkable story of one of Europe’s most beloved and inspiring artists.

TOVE: in cinemas and exclusively on Curzon Home Cinema on 9 July
