QUOTES FROM BIRDS EYE VIEW
PATRONS & SUPPORTERS:

Joanna Lumley OBE:
"This is a terrific initiative; and the films are all fresh, unexpected, skilful, professional and make the viewer think and feel new things (a considerable achievement). If this is what being a bird is, I'm proud to be one."

Mike Figgis:
"I think Birds Eye View goes a long way towards addressing the gender imbalance inherent in the British film industry."

Mike Figgis is one of Britain's most truly innovative film directors. His work includes Leaving Las Vegas, Timecode and Hotel.

Alison Steadman:
Alison Steadman is one of Britain's leading actors. She has starred in major British films including Topsy Turvy, Life is Sweet, Shirley Valentine and Abigail's Party. On television Steadman has starred in The Singing Detective,Pride and Prejudice and Fat Friends.

Sarah Radclyffe:
"At long last! Birds Eye View is a fantastic idea and I'm delighted to give it my support. It's wonderful to see such a range talent amongst women filmmakers."

Sarah Radclyffe founded Working Title Films with Tim Bevan in 1984. There she produced films such as My Beautiful Lauderette, Wish You Were Here and A World Apart. In 1993 she left the company to pursue a more independent career and set up Sarah Radclyffe Productions. In the six years since then she has produced and executive produced eight films including Second Best, Cousin Bette, Les Miserables, The Ratcatcher, The War Zone and There's Only One Jimmy Grimble. Radclyffe also received the Simon Olswang Business Woman of the Year award 2002. She is on the board of directors of the Film Council UK.

Juliet Stevenson: (Birds Eye View Presenter; Actor: Truly Madly Deeply, Bend it Like Beckham):
"Birds Eye View is an amazing initiative. It's here to draw our attention to a situation which needs a lot of energy and faith putting into it, but it's mainly here, of course, as a great celebration of talent... It's cause for great, great hope... I think the world needs more films made by women, shaped by female perception. Cinema is the most powerful medium of our age and with the world the state that it's in I think we need films that are shaped by women's ways of seeing, women's ways of exploring and resolving conflict shaped by their own self images, their own sexuality, humour and vision. So let's hope that Birds Eye View is the dawning of a golden age of women's cinema."

BIRDS EYE VIEW SUPPORTERS:

Greta Scacchi (Actor: The Player, Presumed Innocent):
"Birds Eye View is a unique platform to kick-start the careers of some very talented female directors, actors and writers. The work on show this year is as usual challenging and wildly creative. Those that bemoan the lack of fresh talent in the British film industry should look no further for the names of the future."

Zoë Wanamaker (Actor: Harry Potter, My Family):
"This is a rare chance to see the staggering diversity and creativity of women filmmakers in the UK today. Birds Eye View is fantastic entertainment, whilst raising a really important issue. Go and see!"

Imogen Stubbs (Birds Eye View contributor; Actor: Sense and Sensibility, Twelfth Night):
"Birds Eye View is fantastically enterprising in that it uniquely presents women's films in the context of a programme of 'shorts'. I was thrilled to have my own film included in the last tour."

Sally Phillips (Birds Eye View presenter; Actor: Smack the Pony, Bridget Jones' Diary):
"Birds Eye View is a brilliant evening, there's definitely something for everybody. It feels bizarrely sophisticated, like reading poetry - different thoughts on different subjects. It's awesome."

Naomie Harris (Birds Eye View presenter; Actor: 28 Days Later, White Teeth):
"I was genuinely overwhelmed and incredibly impressed with the quality of the films. All of them touched me and made me think... they moved me in ways that often full-length features haven't."

We also have much support from respected industry bodies. Women in Film and Television and The Directors Guild of Great Britain put on panel discussions supporting our International Women's Day tour in 2003.

Jane Cussons - Women in Film and Television:
"Women in Film and Television believe Birds Eye View is a very significant help in promoting women directors. It is exciting to see so much talent on display. A must-see for spotting emerging new directors."

Sue Dunderdale - ex chair Directors Guild Of Great Britain:
"It's truly inspiring to see a new generation of women filmmakers and producers working together to create and generate work. A reminder to those of us who've been around longer of the need to work together."
