Preview: The New Man at Picturehouse Central

Please join Birds Eye View and Raising Films on Wednesday 16 November at Picturehouse Central for a very special preview of The New Man, directed by Devorah Baum and Josh Appignanesi. Hailed as “moving, insightful and beautifully crafted” by Time Out and “very funny and poignant” by The Guardian, it’s a film for anyone who has children, is thinking of having them, or still feels like a child themselves…

A married couple (Appignanesi and Baum) turn the camera on themselves as they undergo the sometimes hilarious ordeal of becoming parents in our era of IVF, late reproduction and the crisis of masculinity. But when life-threatening complications hit, they’re tested to the brink. What emerges is an intimate, moving portrait of a generation going through a revolution that no one is talking about. En route we encounter the likes of Zadie Smith, John Berger, Antony Gormley, Slavoj Žižek, Hisham Matar, Darian Leader and David Schneider.

The screening takes place at 6.30pm and will be followed by a ‘lightning talk’ with celebrated psychotherapist and author Susie Orbach, Nicky Bentham of Raising Films, and the filmmakers. Check out a trailer below and book your tickets here. You can also like and follow the film on Facebook and Twitter.
