(Ruby Yang, China/US 2006, 39’)
ICA CINEMA 2 Saturday 8 March 2PM ICA CINEMA 2 Thursday 13 March 6.30PM
"It’s a very quietly stunning film. You look for movies that tell a deep story that is unexpected. This one does." - Nina Gilden Seavey, Silverdocs
Winner: OSCAR © for Best Short Documentary, 2007
Little is known about Gao Jun, not even his age. Yet this young AIDS orphan reveals his ferocious resolve to live while his extended family debates whether or not to keep him. A heart-wrenching story of the collision between the traditional Chinese obligations of family and community and the terror of infection due to misinformation about the disease.

Journey of a Red Fridge
(Lucian Muntean & Natasa Stankovic, Serbia 2007, 52’)
UK PREMIERE
 |
Journey
of a Red Fridge follows Nepalese teenager Hari Rai on his four-day
trek as a porter across the Himalayas, with a huge Coca-Cola refrigerator
on his back. Outstanding cinematography contrasts the stunning mountain
vistas with the bright red fridge, whilst a relaxed directorial
style brings us close to the charming Hari, torn between two worlds
and desperately trying to raise enough money to study.
Natasa Stankovic studied photography
in Bucharest, Romania, and Belgrade, Serbia. In 2005, Natasa Stankovic
and Lucian Muntean founded Lunam Docs - an independent documentary
film production dedicated to subjects of human rights and social
justice around the world, with special attention paid to children
rights and child labour. Screening supported by ActionAid
