Introduced by the fabulous Maureen Lipman, BEV’s star-studded opening gala showcases the very best work from up and coming women filmmakers around the globe: a powerful mix of styles and genres - from Bolivian lady-wrestlers through love sick stop animation to stunning Serbian drama - plus a quick taste of early silent comedy with live piano accompaniment by twice Grammy nominated Imogen Heap (Garden State soundtrack).

Followed by a free party for all ticket holders in the Filmcafé, with complimentary drinks.

Maureen Lipman

Maureen Lipman CBE is a long time theatre, film and TV actress, comedienne and columnist. As well as appearing in British classics like Coronation Street and Doctor Who, she has starred in Hollywood movies including The Pianist and was BAFTA nominated for her performance in Educating Rita.

With Florence Turner, Tom Powers. Turner frightens all and sundry with her extraordinary facial contortions, and when a policeman is summoned to restrain her, Turner’s response "I only did this" lands her in jail.

Imogen Heap was trained as a classical pianist while growing up in Essex, England, but her sound is more electro-pop than chamber music. Her latest album, Speak For Yourself, consists of computer manipulated sounds ranging from her own voice to piano to carpet tubes, layered with electronic beats and Heap's introspective lyrics.

 

Jaime Winstone

Jaime Winstone is a British actress best known for playing Becky in the gritty film Kidulthood and playing Lauren in the Channel 4 drama series Goldplated.
