Selected for official competition in Cannes 2007, a gripping period piece from world-acclaimed Catherine Breillat. The Marquess of Fleurs chooses the romantic but philandering Ryno de Marigny to marry her innocent young daughter and jewel of the aristocracy. But Ryno must first entangle himself from the grip of his ten-year love affair with devilish seductress Vellini, the daughter of a bull-fighter and Duchess.

Catherine Breillat is a multi-award winning Paris-based filmmaker and writer who became famous for her distinctively personal films on sexuality, gender trouble and sibling rivalry. She is also a best-selling novelist.
