the best of the fest in the spirit of our closing night feature. Enjoy
bhangra beats with a Western edge from BBC Asian Networks leading South
Asian DJ, DJ Kayper ( “the best female DJ that I've ever heard in
my life!” Jazzy Jeff) , free beer and Asian offerings as the
festival awards are announced, judged by the likes of Monica Ali, Harriet
Walter and Sarfraz Manzoor

DJ
Kayper
One
of the most talented DJs in the urban music arena, blending classic
and current Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae/Dancehall, 80's and Soul
with an expertise of Bhangra and Bollywood, Kayper has rocked
the international urban scene from New York to India with her
own regular club nights as well as star appearance alongside Jazzy
Jeff, DJ Cash Money, Clinton Sparks, Killa Kela, Scratch Perverts
and Mr. Thing along as well as Hip Hop's most influential artists
in concert including Pete Rock, Pharaoh Monch, Ghostface, Guru
and Arrested Development.
Understanding
that being female and South Asian aren't necessarily characteristics
that one would expect out of a world class DJ, Kayper displays
both with ferocious pride. In 2003, she achieved an enormous milestone
in her career after becoming the first female ever to win the
Vestax Juice DJ competition leading to an instant endorsement
contract by Vestax and in May of 2006, Kayper signed to the BBC
Asian Network to present her own radio show. Dubbed The Hype Show,
it has quickly become one of the flagship music programs within
the BBC Asian Network.
