A screening of a selection of films by contemporary artists who have utilised, investigated and celebrated opera and contemporary classical music. The artists include: Alice Anderson, Martha Colburn, Haris Epaminonda, Karen Knorr, Rut Blees Luxemburg, Tania Mouraud, Michelle Naismith, Mariele Neudecker, Jayne Parker, Sophy Rickett, Susanne Winterling. Some of the music pieces are originally composed for the films and fascinating collaborations between visual artists and composers emerge in the spatial logic of opera; from anarchic animations to baroque staging of the body via the hysterical clarity of the operatic voice.
David Gryn/Artprojx has collaborated with artists Rut Blees Luxemburg and Sophy Rickett to curate and select the works in this compilation. This is also the first collaboration between Artprojx and Birds Eye View to present films by artists. Artprojx is a leading promoter for showing artists films in the context of the cinema.
